The Tale of Sally’s Pinafore Dress
I worked with Sally to create a simple pinafore dress. Sally emailed me saying she’d like a simple tunic dress to wear everyday. I drew a quick sketch of the item she described and emailed it back to her. Sally replied saying she thought the waist was too high so I altered the position of the waistline and marked what measurements I’d need Sally to take on the sketch. This is the diagram you can see below.

The measurements noted are:
A. Bust
B. Waist (where Sally wanted skirt to sit)
C. Hips
D. Length from waist to end
E. Length from shoulder to waist
After Sally emailed back her measurements I was able to tell her how much fabric I’d need for her item and how much it would cost to be made. Sally decided she’d like to go and buy the fabric herself. She chose a beautiful sea foam needlecord.
As Sally brought the fabric herself I only charged her for the thread, zip, a small amount of lining and the service charge. In this instance the cost was £30. Sally received the pinafore dress a couple of weeks later. Months later it is one of her wardrobe staples and she tells me she regularly receives compliments for it. You can see her in it below showing it off at the Bobbins & Robbins Tea Party we threw last year.
